A trip to Windsor would not be complete without a visit to Windsor Castle, The Queen’s favourite weekend home and the largest, inhabited castle in the world. You’ll discover State Apartments full of treasures from the Royal Collection, Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, St George’s Chapel as well as regular activities for families.
Just a few miles from Windsor lies historic Cliveden, cared for by the National Trust. The estate which overlooks the River Thames features glorious gardens, wonderful woodlands and extensive estate walks and is open year round.
Windsor Great Park covers 4,800 acres, parts of which are open to the public. Its present area was determined in the 1360s and was popular with Saxon kings as a hunting forest. The park today is the perfect place for picnics, eating, shopping, running, walking, cycling, horse riding and fishing.
Maidenhead Heritage Centre houses permanent and temporary exhibitions on the history of Maidenhead including the exhibition Grandma Flew Spitfires which tells the story of the Air Transport Auxiliary, a civilian, volunteer unit, supporting the RAF by helping to ferry aircraft between factories and front-line squadrons. Step back in time and fly a Spitfire in our unique simulator – experience for yourself what it must have been like for these young and adventurous pilots during the 1940s!
Spectacular racing takes place throughout the year at Ascot Racecourse, each meeting offering a unique theme and atmosphere as well as dedicated family racedays. Find out about the history of the royal procession at Royal Ascot here.
A boat trip on the River Thames is a must! French Brothers Boats operate from Windsor Promenade; choose a public trip of 40 minutes or 2 hours or book yourself on to one of their special event cruises on board one of their Victorian steam boats. All trips offer fantastic views of Windsor Castle.
LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is a unique family theme park where children aged 2 -12 can take to the road, soar through the skies and sail the seas in complete safety. With over 55 interactive rides, attractions, live shows, building workshops and driving schools, not to mention a staggering 80 million LEGO® bricks, all set in 150 acres of beautiful parkland, you’ll need at least a full day to explore!
Windsor Racecourse is unique! A figure-of-eight course on its own island located on the River Thames. You can appreciate the amazing location in this aerial footage.
The annual Windsor Festival showcases the world’s finest musicians, writers, artists, and local performers as they entertain and delight festival audiences and celebrate Windsor's special place as a Royal town. The festival also inspires the next generation of artistic talent and creativity and the biennial String Competition seeks out the star performer of a generation and aims to launch the career of one violinist, violist or cellist.
