09:00 to 17:30, Monday to Saturday, are the usual opening times although some times vary depending on the nature of the business. On Sunday shops open generally between 10:00 and 16:00 or 11:00 and 17:00. In December a number of shops within Windsor and Maidenhead stay open later for Christmas late night shopping. Please call the Royal Windsor Information Centre for more details of these events, 01753 743900.
Find out more about shopping in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Windsor Castle is open March to October from 10:00 until 17:15 (last admission at 16:00) and November to February from 10:00 until 16:15 (last admission at 15:00). The Castle is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and there are a number of provisional closure dates each year so please check The Royal Collection website before your visit. The Castle is officially closed on 25 and 26 December, Good Friday, Easter Sunday morning and for the Garter Ceremony (usually the Monday of Royal Ascot week) but as Windsor Castle is a working royal palace, opening arrangements may change at short notice or parts of the Castle may be closed. Check The Royal Collection website before your visit.
Windsor Castle is a 2-minute walk from Windsor and Eton Central and a 5-minute walk from Windsor and Eton Riverside. The walk from Riverside station to the Castle is initially level then it is uphill. Find out more about Getting here by rail.
Legoland® Windsor Resort is located on Winkfield Road, Windsor, SL4 4AY, a couple of miles from Windsor town centre. There is chargeable car parking on site.

The bus stop is located on Thames Street opposite the Theatre Royal and is just a short distance from both Windsor and Eton Riverside and Windsor and Eton Central train stations. Please note that diversions are in place between 10:30 and 12:00, on selected days, when roads are closed for the Guard March.
Windsor is a compact town with everything within easy walking distance. Town centre parking is limited and if you are driving into the town the easiest option is to park-up for your stay and walk as much as possible while you are here. Look out for the long stay car parks which are better value for money.
See our Getting Around section for more information, and for up-to-the-minute information on car parks, parking available, Park & Ride and road closures.
Windsor is very close to Heathrow; Terminal 5 is about 20 minutes' drive and Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 are about 25 minutes away. Use the AA's Route Planner.

There are free shuttle bus transfers between all terminals at Heathrow Airport.
Alternatively, prebook a taxi for the best rates.
Lastly, you can take a train from Heathrow to Windsor by getting the RailAir Link Bus from all 5 terminals to Feltham Station. Here, change for a train to Windsor & Eton Riverside. This may be a more appealing option if you already have, or are planning to purchase, a train pass.

If The King is in residence the Royal Standard flag flies from the Round Tower. The Union flag flies at all other times.
Normally, Windsor Castle will still be open when The King is in residence. However the Castle is a working royal palace and can close, sometimes at short notice, for official or state functions.
Many Windsor accommodation providers offer tickets as part of your accommodation package.
Ask when booking or at reception if your hotel is part of the Royal Borough’s Concierge Service and upgrade your stay.

Of course! Here are some suggestions for short and long Heathrow Airport layovers.
If you are visiting Windsor Castle, your luggage can be taken in with you but it will be scanned and therefore can only be accepted if it fits through Windsor Castle’s airport-style security scanners. Whilst you are in the Castle you can leave your luggage in the cloakroom free of charge but it must be collected before you leave. Luggage Storage Windsor (tel: 01753 581158) is fairly centrally located on Goswell Hill (what3words ///pushed.candle.finest) next to Patch on the Plaza and is open from 0900 to 2000 (please phone in advance to confirm). Storage charge is £5 per bag and bags cannot be held overnight. Mail Boxes Etc. Windsor on St Leonards Road also offers a luggage-storage facility for a daily charge; the shop is approximately 10-15 minutes’ walk from Windsor Castle.
The nature of the Royal Borough presents some inherent problems common to many historical towns and cities. The Castle is on a steep hill and some of the shops, restaurants and hotels are less accessible to wheelchair users because of their historic nature.
VisitWindsor has worked with AccessAble, the UK’s leading provider of detailed disabled access information, to produce a range of access guides which help residents and visitors with access requirements to plan their journeys to and around both Windsor and Eton.
Windsor Castle and Legoland® Windsor – two of the UK's top visitor attractions – are fully accessible to wheelchair users and the Royal Borough’s other attractions are working hard towards improving their facilities for a range of disabilities. If you would like more information visit our Travelling with a Disability page.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead's website lists local places to worship. Churches Together in Windsor lists information on local church services in the town.
