Top attractions

Windsor Castle – the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and official residence of His Majesty The King. Highlights include the richly decorated State Apartments, St George's Chapel (burial place of 11 monarchs including Queen Elizabeth II) and Queen Mary's Dolls' House.

Windsor Great Park – majestic royal park with breathtaking views of Windsor Castle. Once part of a vast Norman hunting forest, the 5,000 acre park is now managed by the Crown Estate and is renowned for its ancient oaks, magnificent formal avenues, gardens, woodland, open grassland and the iconic Long Walk.

Changing the Guard – this historic royal ceremony takes place throughout the year on specific days set by the British Army. A monthly guard march schedule is posted in advance. The ceremony is weather permitting and never takes place on a Sunday. Guards march up the High Street at 10.45am or visitors to Windsor Castle can watch the actual changing ceremony outside the Guardroom in the Lower Ward at 11.00am.

Ascot Racecourse – world-famous racecourse and host to Royal Ascot, the centrepiece of the British social calendar. With races throughout the year including the £1.15 million King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, family racedays and events such as the Christmas racing weekend.

Royal Windsor Racecourse – island location set in 165 acres of beautiful countryside on the banks of the River Thames, overlooked by Windsor Castle. Flat racing takes place from April to October with regular Monday evening fixtures and themed nights during the summer.

The Savill Garden – one of England's finest horticultural gems featuring plants from all around the world. Renowned for its spring colour, award-winning rose garden, 100 metre twin herbaceous borders and autumn displays of Japanese maples. The iconic visitor centre features a restaurant, gift shop and plant centre.

LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort – the ultimate in hands-on entertainment for children aged 2-12 with 55 interactive rides, live shows, building workshops, driving schools and attractions set in 150 acres of beautiful parkland.

Golden Tours – this hop on-hop off open top tour bus is one of the best ways to see the sights of historic Windsor and Eton. Tours begin opposite the Theatre Royal, Thames Street and take 60 minutes. Commentary available in 11 languages.

Cliveden – glorious National Trust gardens set high above the River Thames with far-reaching views. Vibrant planting schemes and majestic woodlands capture the grandeur of a bygone age. The giant maze and storybook themed play area are a favourite with families.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is 30 miles west of London and within 15 minutes’ drive of Heathrow Airport. Luton and Gatwick airports are within an hour's drive.

The whole of the Royal Borough is easily accessible via the major motorway networks of the M4, M3, M25 and M40 and is well served by public transport including two train stations, Windsor and Eton Central, and Windsor and Eton Riverside.
