The marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took place in Windsor on Saturday 19 May 2018. An estimated 110,000 people came to Windsor on royal wedding day to line the procession route which included the beautiful Long Walk in Windsor Great Park.
The royal wedding in Windsor marked the latest chapter in Prince Harry's association with the historic Thameside town.
1. Baptised – in St George’s Chapel on 21 December 1984 when he was just over 3 months old. St George’s Chapel is in the Lower Ward of Windsor Castle, which means he is automatically allowed to get married there. There are three services daily and all are welcome to attend.
2. School – he attended prestigious Eton College from 1998 – 2003, following in the footsteps of the Earls Spencer, and his brother Prince William. Eton museums open to the public on Sunday afternoons. Read more in our Eton blog.
3. Rowing – he learnt to row at Eton Dorney Lake, prestigious venue of the London Olympic and Paralympic rowing events. Though a privately-owned site, access to members of the public is allowed in the autumn and winter months unless a sporting or private event is being hosted. Enjoy the beautiful park and arboretum, where planting is explained on story boards placed around the area.
4. Military – Harry was based in the town with his Army regiment, the Blues and Royals, following completion of the Troop Leaders’ Course in October 2006.
5. Polo – he played at Guards Club with the world’s top professionals. Throughout the summer there are regular matches to watch and opportunities to learn to play this fast-paced action sport that have given generations of royal princes the action-man tag.
6. Royal Ascot – an annual favourite sporting event, each day of the meeting, the Royal Family departs from Windsor Castle and proceeds through Windsor Great Park to Ascot Racecourse where the horses and carriages follow in procession along the front of the grandstand.
7. Engagement photos – taken at Frogmore House in Windsor Home Park. Harry reportedly took Meghan there for a picnic when they were dating, and she refered to the location as ‘dreamy’.
8. Marriage – took place at St George’s Chapel, where the connection with the Royal Family is a strong one. King Charles III had his marriage blessed there in 2005, and the Prince Edward, Peter Philips and Princess Eugenie of York celebrated their respective nuptials in the chapel.
9. Reception – took place in St George’s Hall within Windsor Castle, a frequent venue for prestigious formal occasions and celebrations.
