With the Easter school holidays almost upon us, planning a day trip to Windsor and the Royal Borough – or even an ‘eggs’-tended short break! – is a perfect idea.
There’s loads to do, both in our pretty towns and villages and out in the countryside too, PLUS you have the gorgeous River Thames running right through the borough offering lots of opportunities for riverside walks, boat trips and tours as well as feeding the swans on the promenade.
Here are our top ten tips for enjoying Easter in Windsor and the Royal Borough. You'll also discover many attractions and events listed below. Buy attraction and event tickets online through the Windsor online shop or visit the Royal Windsor Information Centre in person for the local lowdown and tickets for many things to see and do!
If you are visiting Windsor Castle this Easter, join in with their fun-filled Easter activities. This year they will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Queen Mary's Dolls' House. Included as part of your visit children can enjoy some creative crafting at the Castle's Learning Centre. Children can design their own room for a dolls' house or create an Easter egg greetings card.
Follow the Windsor Easter Trail, sponsored by South Western Railway. Spot all nine hidden 'eggs' in the town and claim your chocolate-y treat; you can also be in with a chance of winning a family ticket to LEGOLAND® Resort Windsor!
Or hop into Easter fun and find all 22 bunnies hidden around town on Maidenhead's Easter Egg hunt! Claim your chocolate treat at the end.
If you go down the Windsor Great Park Environmental Centre you're in for a big surprise! "Eggsplore" their wild woodland and muddy meadow in search for their egg-laying creatures! Around the trail you can learn all about the exciting eggs you can find in nature, and crack the egg mystery to win yourself a tasty chocolate egg.
Escape rooms are all the rage and perfect for older children. Work in small groups of friends or family, against the clock, to solve puzzles and riddles using all the clues in order to 'escape'. You'll find two great escape room experiences in Windsor: Escape in 60 Windsor and Windsor Escape Experience. How will you fare? There's only one way to find out!
There’s really nothing like experiencing the area from the serenity of the river. Hire a rowing or motor boat from Windsor Promenade, join a passenger boat or duck tour or indulge in a skippered private rivercraft! The choice is yours. Find out more about ways to explore the River Thames.
Whether you are earning your very first driving licence behind the wheel of a LEGO car at the LEGO® City Driving School, riding a Dragon through a medieval castle or discovering a lost underwater city in your very own submarine, the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has something for everyone! Master Builders will be amazed at the iconic Miniland with famous landmarks built with over 40 million LEGO bricks. Little builders also have so much to explore in the amazing DUPLO® Valley where they can take a ride on the world’s first DUPLO rollercoaster, or fly through the skies at DUPLO Valley airport. Plus, explore LEGO® Mythica where LEGO creatures come to life. Full of epic adventures, powerful guardians and mysterious creatures all waiting to be discovered. Prepare to buckle up and soar into this mystical realm powered by imagination, including the UK's first flying theatre ride, Flight of the Sky Lion.
