The National Trust

The Royal Borough features some beautiful countryside with more than 1,000 acres of National Trust land in the north of the borough.

Included amongst this land are Maidenhead Commons and Cookham Commons, both offering great walking opportunities and a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of Maidenhead town centre.

Discover the farmland, woodland and quiet village lanes that inspired Kenneth Grahame, author of the classic children’s tale ‘The Wind in the Willows’.

The Cliveden Estate, perched high above the River Thames, is just a short distance from Maidenhead. 

Relax in the informal spendour of Cliveden's stunning gardens and enjoy exploring the peaceful woodlands and Thames riverbank.

Three miles south-east of Windsor, the river leaves the Royal Borough at Runnymede, the famous site of the signing of the Magna Carta.

A walk through the peaceful meadow to the top of the hill offers breathtaking views across the Thames Valley.
