I’m Massimiliano Muratori – known to my friends as Massi – originally from Calcinelli in Italy but now established in Windsor.
By day I work at the Royal Windsor Information Centre, using the many languages I speak to deal with visitors from all over the world who express their interest and appreciation of this delightful town with its eclectic mix of architecture.
I’m also a self-taught artist. Living and working in Windsor has inspired in me an interest in drawing iconic buildings like Windsor Castle as well as other local treasures which are not always on the regular tourist track.
I love travelling, particularly walking long-distance historical pilgrims routes. Recently I completed the St James Way from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago and the Via Podiensis from Le Puy-en-Valay in France. Unfortunately May’s challenge – The Camino Portuguese – has been postponed due to the current Covid-19 crisis.
For more than five years I have produced an annual Royal Windsor calendar which features my drawings. Copies of my pictures are also available as cards at the Royal Windsor Information Centre. Drawings completed during my pilgrimages can be viewed at www.massimilianomuratori.com
Why I have chosen this location as my favourite Windsor view?
Alexandra Gardens is a fantastic location between the River Thames – with its swans, boats and lovely riverside walk – and Windsor Castle. It’s a tranquil spot to relax and is incredibly well kept.
No matter where you choose to stop, every part of Alexandra Gardens gives you a striking view of the castle. My favourite spot is looking at the castle through the branches of the huge oak tree in the middle of the park.
I hope that comes across in my impression on paper and that it might persuade people to visit the park and experience the incredible view from there too.
Top three things I'm looking forward to doing post-lockdown
1. As I’ve been walking regularly during the lock down period along the River Thames, I’m looking forward to the 2-hour French Brothers Boats round trip and so viewing the Thames Path this time from the river.
2. Going into town and getting my Caffè Nero caramel latte.
3. Making a drawing during the next Changing of the Guards along the High Street. By doing so I’m sure to meet and have a chat with our regular TIC aficionados that come into town for this event.
