About

From its home in the village of Bray, Berkshire, The Fat Duck is a culinary institution known the world over. It was one of the fastest restaurants to ascend to three Michelin Star status and voted Best Restaurant in the world’s 50 Best.

Founded by Heston Blumenthal in 1995, this converted coaching inn is where the trailblazing chef and his team have forged unrivalled reputations for experimentation, imagination and, above all, originality. Since its inception, it has shaken up the way the dining industry approaches food as a whole, evolving to become one of the most creative and well-known restaurants in the world.

Heston and his team, have long been engaged in channelling and developing the boundary-breaking vision in the delivery of iconic, thought-provoking dishes like Snail Porridge and Sound of the Sea.

A visit to the Fat Duck is an adventure full of unexpected flavour, pairings, playful innovation and unique culinary creations. Guests are taken on a gloriously gastronomic journey into mouth, mind and memory, an exploration of human sensory interconnections, driven by Heston’s longstanding notion that one should ‘Question Everything’.

Here, tasting menus allows diners to explore their own relationship with food, and to find out how far their mind, memories and emotions determine their appreciation and enjoyment. The precision and playfulness in the concept of each dish extends to every detail. In the world of Heston Blumenthal, nothing goes untried nor unquestioned.

Heston Blumenthal

Internationally famous for his award-winning, 3-Michelin-starred restaurant, The Fat Duck, in Berkshire, Heston Blumenthal is considered to be one of the best and most original and influential chefs of his generation. Completely self-taught, he has pioneered multisensory cooking and constantly pushed the boundaries of cuisine, changing the way people cook and think about eating.

Heston has received an honorary Master of Science from Bristol University and honorary doctorates from Reading and the University of London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and of the Royal Society of Chemistry, which chose him as one of its ‘175 Faces of Chemistry’.  In 2006 he was awarded an O.B.E. by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to British gastronomy.

We had a fabulous time and a great meal - would suggest a few courses are a little too theatrical, remember we are there for the food. However I am surprised no one mentions that the menu price does... Read full review

The Fat Duck is not large - if you arrive early, as we did, you can wait in the Hinds Head pub nearby or just stand on the pavement. We went for a 13:15 booking, and left about 4 hours later... Read full review
