About

Join a fascinating tour of St George's Chapel Archives and Library

The Archives and Library are situated in a 15th-century building in the Lower Ward of Windsor Castle.  They are home to a rich collection of documents relating to the Chapel's history, dating from as early as the 12th century, and handwritten and printed books dating back over 600 years.

Your visit will include a tour of the building led by the Archivists and Librarians and Conservator, and the chance to see some of the archival documents we hold and the books that were collected by generations of Deans and Canons of St George's Chapel.  Learn how they were made and how they are looked after today.  There is also an opportunity to view our archive exhibition.

St George's Chapel Adopt a Book conservation scheme

All profits from the tickets support the Adopt a Book conservation scheme. The scheme helps us to preserve the unique collection of rare books in the Chapter Library of St George’s Chapel, repairing the damage of centuries of dust, dirt, insects, and the inevitable wear and tear of use.

Important booking information

We will also need some additional information from you at the time of booking. Windsor Castle has a high security level and we need to ask you for full details in order to get security clearance to allow you access to non-visitor areas. Under GDPR regulations this information will only be used for this purpose and will not be retained. This therefore means that we may need to ask you for it again should you attend another event. We are sorry that this is so bureaucratic, however we are sure you will appreciate that security is paramount. Thank you for your understanding.

The event ticket does not grant you access to any of the State Apartments, Precincts or St George's Chapel.
