About

Windsor and Royal Borough Museum is a family-friendly museum bursting with interesting facts and interactive displays of East Berkshire.

The museum explores the history of the borough through an audio trail of stories told by local residents about their lives and the changing landscape of Windsor.

The museum offers a look into our unique and varied collection, from our 100,000-year-old Mammoth tusk to a model of a Hawker Hurricane, the plane designed by Windsor-born Sir Sydney Camm.

When available, we also offer guided tours of the Grade I listed Windsor Guildhall, where you can gain a glimpse into these splendid rooms, view the collection of portraits of monarchs since Elizabeth I and learn about the civic history of Windsor.

Visitors can also help the museum to record the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our community by donating items to ‘The Royal Borough Memory Box’. This historic project invites you to contribute your photographs, videos, artwork, stories and any items that represent your personal experiences of life during the pandemic and in lockdown.

Accessibility

All Areas Accessible to Disabled Visitors - Museum gallery is wheelchair accessible. There is level access from the Guildhall Corn Market into the Museum gallery. The upper floor, when available for visitor viewing, is accessible via a stairlift. Please contact us in advance if you need to use the stairlift on your visit.

Parking Areas for Disabled Visitors - Parking for disabled visitors is available for two Blue Badge holders outside Windsor Library, and also in Victoria Street Car Park.
