A Shakespearian classic set in the 1990s Northern Ireland
Two households, both alike in dignity. In broken Belfast, where we lay our scene… A new version of Romeo and Juliet is at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Thursday 6 March at 8pm. Tickets are £16 | £14 Supporters. Age guidance 11+ years.
A brand new adaptation set on the streets of Northern Ireland’s capital in 1998 – the year that the Good Friday agreement was signed. From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, a pair of star-crossed lovers take their lives.
Led with movement and a banging 90s soundtrack played by a live band, this is a high paced, modern take on a timeless classic. Presented by OVO, their fresh take shows us that Shakespeare is a relevant today as it’s always been and that a fragile peace is only a durable as opposing side permit.
OVO create bold, imaginative and surprising new versions of classic plays and stories. They have staged over 100 productions since they were founded in 2003. They are particularly well known for Shakespeare productions. They have tackled other modern classics with live music as an important element to their style.
The theatre company have received numerous awards and critical acclaim. Their production of As You Like It won the 2016 Minack Trophy and was named as one of The Guardian’s best shows of 2019.
A twist on this timeless classic is not to be missed in our Courtyard Theatre.
